Discover the History of the guitar as heard through the music.

Classical Guitar

Explore creation of the modern guitar in Spain. Hear the guitar from it’s early classical music roots through the music of Fernando Sor, Francisco Tarrega, Hector Villa-Lobos and more. Listen to performances by Andres Segovia, Christopher Parkening and Liona Boyd as you gain an understanding of Spanish classical guitar.

Jazz Guitar

Continue to trace the evolution of the guitar through jazz music. Listen to jazz guitar as played by the early acoustic pioneers Eddie Lang, Carl Kress and Dick McDonough. Then discover the electric guitar from it’s early master’s Charlie Christian, Tal Farlow, Jimmy Rainey. The tradition continues with Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell right up through today’s most modern jazz guitarists George Benson, Pasquale Grasso and Jonathan Kreisberg.

Blues & Rock Guitar

Discover blues from the earliest rural blues guitarists Robert Johnson and Son House to Muddy Waters, B.B. King and later Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Then trace the evolution of rock guitar from its 1950’s pioneers Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Carl Perkins to the 60’s British rock invasion (the Beatles) to Woodstock with Jimi Hendrix. Continue with The Rolling Stones, 70s folk artists Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell up through contemporary rock guitarists Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen. 3 SESSIONS
