Course Description

Henry McNally, MA, Fordham, Irish historian, recipient of the 2019 eoin McKiernan Award, Maureen Dunphy Brady, MA, NYU Glucksman Ireland House, Irish historian,

The Cook College Ramblers

It has been said that in the matter of war and rebellion, the victor writes the history, and the loser writes the song. A powerful song, however, carries a message that endures and inspires successive generations of rebels, not so much to change past history as to write a new chapter. This is the essential story of Irish resistance

across the centuries. Join us for a program that will leave you admiring Irish resilience and humming a rebel tune.

THE STORIES

Maureen Brady will explore the rebellions of  1798, 1848, 1867, and 1916, looking at common themes, successes, and failures, introducing the major figures involved, and concluding with Ireland finally on the brink of independence.

THE SONGS

The Cook College Ramblers will perform 10-12 songs of Irish rebellion, with narration by Henry McNally.  Audience participation is encouraged and expected. (Includes breakfast)
